How to access Data for places within a county

Using the 5-year American Community Survey Estimate


  • The US Census Bureau recently released new 2005-2009 American Community Survey (ACS) 5- year estimates that can be drilled down to the census tract level.
  • Using the American FactFinder, users can search for social, demographic, housing, and economic Data for nearly all the neighborhoods, zip codes and cities and even the very small towns within a county.
  • This tool enables the Northeast Washington Trends users to supplement the county-wide look of the Northeast Washington Trends site.

The cities/towns covered by the ACS include:

Chewelah

Colville

Kettle Falls

Springdale

Marcus

Northport

Ione

Metaline

Metaline Falls

Cusick

Newport

Curlew 

Republic

Inchellium CDP= Census Designated Place


To access the American Community Survey:

  1.  Visit http://factfinder2.census.gov
  2. There is a light blue and white box on the left hand side and toward the bottom of the page       titled “Legacy American Fact Finder.”
  3.    Click on the middle link in that box, the 2009 American Community Survey link
  4. Choose the “2005-2009 American Community Survey 5-year estimates” bubble (the site               defaults to this option, so you won’t need to actually do anything)
  5. Click on Data Profiles from the list on the right hand side
  6. Under Geographic Type, search by “Place” in the drop-down menu
  7. Select WA in the drop-down menu (or whatever state your place of interest is in)
  8. Select a geographic area (like Springdale, etc.)
  9.   Click the “Show Result” button
